Frequently Asked Questions

Product Questions

1. Where are COOHGRUBS made in?

We raise black soldier fly larvae on FDA-registered farms in China.

2. Are COOHGRUBS the same as mealworms?

No, they are 2 different types of insect, both of them are healthy snack for your flocks. But COOHGRUBS contains 60x-100x more calcium than mealworms. So if you want eggs with stronger shells, COOHGRUBS is no doubt a better choice.

3. How are your COOHGRUBS harvested?

We utilize industrialized equipment to raise COOHGRUBS with fully automated environmental control systems. As an ECO-friendly and sustainable source of protein, COOHGRUBS are fed with food waste, such as vegetables, fruits, and okara. Furthermore, all of our insect farms strictly control products quality throughout all life stages of black soldier fly larvae. Only grubs that meet the requirements will pass the machine screening.

4. At what age can my chicks eat COOHGRUBS?

You can give your feathered babies a daily pinch or two of COOHGRUBS as of 3 weeks old. The extra protein will aid their muscle development and feather growth. Feed in moderation (too much protein can be dangerous for your little ones) and be sure they have access to chick grit to help them digest their snack. They may be a little hesitant at first because everything is still new for your little ones… but they will soon LOVE their snack time!

Flock Questions

1. I have picky chickens, do you have any feeding tips?

  • Give it a little time.

Be patient with your fluffy ones, especially with new feed and healthy snacks so that they have the opportunity to adapt to a new food that will help their overall health. If they don’t start eating it within a few minutes, they may get there within a few hours. Some more cautious chickens may need 3-7 days to get used to new foods. Once your chickens go nuts for a healthy snack like COOHGRUBS, you’ll have them following you everywhere (including back to the coop safely). Plus, this nutrient-rich snack is essential to help your flock's feathers when molting.

  • Mix it up.

One way to let your picky eaters know that their new snacks are safe and delicious is to offer it with other delicious treats or snacks.

  • Mix COOHGRUBS with some scratch.
  • Scramble some eggs and sprinkle with COOHGRUBS.
  • Sprinkle COOHGRUBS on some watermelon, or their favorite fruit.

Toss a handful (or two, or three) into their regular feed.

2. Can ducks, wild birds and other feathered friends eat COOHGRUBS? What about roosters?

Yes, absolutely! Grubs are a great source of protein and calcium for your whole feathered family. If you have a rooster, he can enjoy COOHGRUBS too. Just be sure he doesn’t have access to any calcium supplements like oyster shells.

3. What if my chickens just don’t like their new healthy food/snacks?
