Hello, my name is Adrianna Hyde. I am 24 years old and I was born and raised in north-central Florida.
I grew up on a quarter horse farm and I have ridden horses my entire life. My parents kept me very active in 4-H and Pony Club. When I was around 7-8 years old, a 4-H poultry group was developing in my area. My mom asked my brother and I if we wanted to get chickens and of course we said yes! My mom brought home a hen and rooster of mixed backyard breeding. Their names were Pearl and Pepper and they were so friendly. We went to hang out with them in their coop every day after school. We had a lot of fun and met a lot of amazing people in the club. After the first youth fair, my mom bought me a pair of bantam buff cochins. They were the cutest little fluff balls. With this pair I learned about breeding chickens and taking care of chicks. Over the years we raised lots of chicks and acquired new breeds. I was hooked!
Unfortunately my brother and I went outside one day to find our chickens scattered in the yard lifeless. The birds had been free ranging that day and dogs had gotten to them. I was distraught and didn’t want anything to do with chickens after that. It was heartbreaking to lose them.
In 2019 my boyfriend bought a coop and chickens and that's when I realized how much I missed having chickens. We had a lot of different breeds but my favorite were the silkies and polish. I bought the best silkies and polish that I could find and I have been hatching and raising lots of them. I am breeding them to the American Standard of Perfection in the hopes of showing again one day.
There is so much to learn and so many goals to achieve so it keeps me busy. My favorite part of breeding chickens is watching chicks develop into adults over time and of course photographing them!
