Hello, my name is Amy Mayfield, I live on a small 5-acre farm in the state of Oklahoma. I have been raising birds for the last 20 years or so. I stopped raising birds for a little while but got back into it when I got the idea to get some peacocks. I have 14 peacocks, 75 chickens, 10 geese, and 2 ducks. My birds are all free ranged except for 10 of the peacocks and 7 companion roosters. I’ve dedicated 2-arces of my land for foraging purposes for feeding my birds. I built a water (bog) land, xeriscape area and have many fruit trees and berry bushes throughout my property.
As a raiser of peacocks, I know that they require a diet richer in protein. I believe in creating foraging habitats that consists of native edible plants and is home to Oklahoma. Lizards, frogs, snakes, and many insects that my free ranged birds can hunt and eat.
